What is waxing insurance?

As a wax technician you will be interacting with multiple different clients, working with different skin and hair types. While aiming to give your clients smooth and clear skin, accidents may happen, which is where waxing insurance comes in.

Specialist waxing insurance is designed to protect you and your business against potential claims from clients, should they occur. It provides financial protection if your equipment were to be damages or if something were to happen to your business premises.

What insurance should I consider as a waxing technician?

The cover you’ll want to consider will depend on what you are wanting to protect your business against.

The three main types of waxing insurance include:

• Public Liability—this covers your legal liability to third parties for treatment risks, personal injury or property damage

• Employers’ Liability—this is a legal requirement for businesses with employees and covers their legal liability to them for bodily injury

• Equipment Cover— this can cover for theft or accidental damage to your business equipment, such as your brushes or even your laptop which you use to manage your accounts and website

However, you may also want to consider adding Money Cover to provide financial protection if money belonging to your business is stolen from your premises or in transit.

Additionally, Buildings and Content Cover is an option which can financially protect your premises if the building or contents are damaged.

Waxing insurance FAQs
  • What are the different types of waxing?
    • Waxing can come in many different forms and the one you choose may differ on your training and experience.

The different types of waxing may include:

      • Warm wax and cloth strips – this is the more traditional type of waxing, whereby wax beads are warmed up and applied to the skin with a wooden applicator. Cloth strips are then smoothed on top and peeled back to remove the hair

      • Hard wax – similar to warm wax, this is heated up and applied in the same way, but does not require a cloth strip to remove

      • Paraffin wax – which uses a soft wax to coat the skin and leave it fresh and moisturised

      • Sugar wax – also known as sugaring, this type of wax uses natural ingredients to create the wax, such as sugar, lemon juice, essential oils and water

    Do wax technicians need insurance?
    • Though you may be very skilled with waxing, sometimes accidents can happen. For example, your client may experience an unexpected allergic reaction to the wax, or their skin may tear.

However, with waxing insurance, you and your business would be protected from potential client claims.

How much does waxing insurance cost?
    • The cost of waxing insurance will depend on a wide variety of factors. These may include:

      • your experience

      • what type of cover you require

      • what type of treatments your business offers.

Why is Public Liability insurance important for wax technicians?
    • Public Liability insurance is a type of waxing insurance that protects you against third-party claims for instances such as personally injury or property damage that could arise while working with the public.

For example, if you were to accidently burn your client with hot wax, having Public Liability cover in place could provide financial protection if a claim is made against your business.

Here at Ripe, Public Liability cover is included as standard, so you would be covered in this scenario.
