OLAPLEX in-salon treatment: Tips for salons and hair stylists
Everyone is talking about OLAPLEX, and for good reason. Since its launch in 2014, it’s taken social media by storm, becoming one of the biggest beauty products to trend on TikTok – even Jennifer Aniston, Lana Del Rey, and Jennifer Lopez swear by it.
If you’re a salon owner or hair stylist looking to elevate your service menu, this haircare brand is one you need to know about. But what is OLAPLEX? And why should your salon stock it? Read on to find out what it is, how it works, its benefits for your clients, and much more.
What is OLAPLEX and how does it work?
OLAPLEX is a bond-building treatment that helps to repair, protect, and strengthen your hair. A multi-step treatment system, it transforms your hair from the inside out. When your hair is damaged (most commonly caused by colouring, heat or free radicals), it means your disulfide bonds are broken. These bonds are responsible for your hair’s strength, and OLAPLEX specifically targets broken disulfide bonds with its patented formula to repair them. It’s what makes it one of the most effective hair treatments for clients dealing with breakages from colour damage and other chemical processes.
From the first use, hair looks glossier and feels softer. It’s the perfect treatment for clients who regularly colour their hair, but it's suitable for all hair types and textures – coloured or not – so everyone can benefit from the magic of OLAPLEX.
Benefits of using OLAPLEX on your clients’ hair
From enhancing colour vibrancy to strengthening strands, OLAPLEX offers a whole host of benefits. And as it’s perfect for use on virgin or colour-treated strands, all of your clients can add this game-changing product range to their regular haircare regimen.
Here are just a few reasons why your clients will love popping into your salon for OLAPLEX treatments:
Protects and repairs hair
OLAPLEX is formulated with an exclusive ingredient – Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate – that’s proven to rebuild hair strands. It works on a molecular level, quickly repairing broken bonds and protecting hair from further damage. It’s what makes it perfect for clients who regularly colour their hair. Applying OLAPLEX before their usual cut and colour service ensures their tresses remain strong and healthy throughout the process.
Increases hair’s manageability
Broken disulfide bonds can make hair appear dry, frizzle and brittle, making it hard for clients to manage day-to-day. They might find they’re unable to achieve the styles they want, constantly battling uncontrollable frizz and flyaways. Because OLAPLEX helps to rebuild broken disulfide bonds, regular treatments can help to increase hair’s smoothness and softness, making hair a breeze to style.
Enhances colour longevity
Colour clients who have regular OLAPLEX treatments will notice their colour lasts much longer. That’s because their overall hair is healthier and less prone to dullness and fading. Blondes will love that it makes their blonde look brighter, more vibrant and less likely to turn brassy.
Why offering OLAPLEX treatments is good for your salon
Adding OLAPLEX treatments to your salon isn’t just about keeping up with the latest beauty trends. It’s about giving your clients the best results, which in turn can boost your salon’s growth and success.
Here are just a few reasons why you should add this go-to hair treatment to your offerings:
Increases business awareness
OLAPLEX has quickly become the treatment clients are seeking. It’s stocked at top salons up and down the country and has garnered tons of features in the press for being a miracle hair treatment. Such a renowned product will attract new clients to the salon, as they specifically search for salons offering OLAPLEX treatments. OLAPLEX is synonymous with high-quality, professional-grade hair care, which in turn will enhance your business’ reputation, making it the perfect way to market your salon.
Expands your offering
Adding OLAPLEX treatments to your salon service menu will make you a one-stop destination for all of your clients’ hair needs. From intensive treatments to cutting and colouring, providing them with an end-to-end hair service means more sales for your salon and greater customer satisfaction too. You can say “hello!” to increased revenue as clients can choose OLAPLEX treatments as an add-on treatment or stand-alone service. Plus, with the brand’s take-home products, you can boost sales and help clients maintain their results at home too.
Boosts client retention
OLAPLEX’s breakthrough hair treatments will leave your clients’ hair feeling oh-so-soft with an enviable shine. They’ll step out of your salon feeling happy with their appointment, and more likely to return in the future. Visible results build trust and long-term relationships with clients. Not only that, but they’re more likely to recommend your salon to their friends and family too! It’s the perfect way to build an established client base.
What in-salon OLAPLEX treatments are there?
The pro-only OLAPLEX treatments are No.1 Bond Multiplier and OLAPLEX No. 2 Bond Perfector. They contain more concentrated levels of OLAPLEX’s exclusive ingredients, so they’re a great intensive treatment to use on your clients.
The OLAPLEX No.1 Bond Multiplier is designed to be added to colour treatments to strengthen and protect the hair. No. 2 OLAPLEX Bond Perfector is applied after rinsing the colour from the hair. You can also apply these as a standalone treatment for clients who don’t have colour. OLAPLEX’s No. 3 Hair Perfector forms the last part of the multi-system and is a take-home bottle for clients to maintain their results at home.
OLAPLEX in-salon treatments cost anywhere from £30–£50, and the take-home No. 3 bottle RRP £28.
How to apply OLAPLEX in-salon treatments
You can use OLAPLEX as a stand-alone treatment (detailed below) or apply it during the colour process to protect the hair during dyeing.
- Use the doser to measure the correct amount of OLAPLEX Nº.1 Bond Multiplier.
- Pour into a non-spraying applicator bottle and mix with 90 ml of water.
- At the shampoo bowl, apply to clean, dry hair. Saturate thoroughly. (Can also be applied to towel-dried hair)
- Leave on for 5 minutes, do not rinse out.
- Apply a generous amount of OLAPLEX No.2 Bond Perfector from root to end. Comb through for even distribution.
- Leave for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
- Cleanse the client’s hair with the OLAPLEX No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo, then follow with OLAPLEX No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner.
- Style as desired.
Are there at-home OLAPLEX treatments?
Yes, there’s a whole range of products available for clients to use at home that you can stock in your salon. These are some of the most popular:
- OLAPLEX No. 0 Intensive Bond Building Treatment – The take-home companion to No. 3 for an intensive at-home treatment
- OLAPLEX No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo – A gentle shampoo that cleanses and strengthens hair
- OLAPLEX No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner – Prevents breakages and deeply hydrates
- OLAPLEX No. 6 Bond Smoother – A leave-in treatment to smooth frizz and condition strands
- OLAPLEX No. 7 Bonding Oil – Delivers heat protection up to 450°F/232°C while strengthening hair and boosting shine
- OLAPLEX No. 8 Bond Intense Moisture Mask – An intense hair mask that delivers weightless moisture and adds body
- OLAPLEX No. 9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum – Protects hair from free radicals and heat damage
Clients can use all of these products as part of their regular haircare regimen to maintain their salon results at home. The No. 0 and No. 3 can be used once a fortnight for virgin hair, and once weekly for colour-treated hair.
What’s the difference between at-home and in-salon OLAPLEX treatments?
The main difference between the in-salon and at-home treatments is that the in-salon two-step treatment features a higher concentration of the brand’s active ingredient. It can only be applied by a professional and is the most intensive bond-building treatment available.
The in-salon OLAPLEX treatment is usually also built into the chemical services while your client is in the chair – applied during a colour or perm to protect and strengthen the hair during the treatment.
OLAPLEX’s at-home treatments are recommended for maintaining your clients’ results in between salon appointments. Neither the in-salon or at-home treatments should replace the other. Applying both regularly is the key to a stronger, smoother, healthier head of hair.
Introducing your clients to OLAPLEX in-salon treatments
OLAPLEX seems like a no-brainer for anyone with hair, but some of your clients might still need convincing to add this treatment to their regimen. Try educating them about the benefits of the treatments, how they work and the results they can expect (especially for those who bleach their hair). You could also bundle OLAPLEX treatments with other services on your menu to make the treatments more accessible.
