Celebrate The Glorious Twelfth with five of the best restaurants

The Glorious Twelfth is an annual event not to be missed, and for those who are joining the hunt, we wish you a safe and successful day. This yearly tradition is an exciting time for those enjoying a spot of walked-up grouse hunting, but it’s also a brilliant time for those who enjoy everything that comes with it.

The restaurants, the functions and the events that add to the occasion can be enjoyed by all, so here at Ripe Shooting, we’ve put together our top list of events and restaurants celebrating the start of grouse hunting season. Splendid food and fun days out—what more could you ask for?

The Carpenters Arms - Felixkirk, Thirsk, North Yorkshire, YO7 2DP

The Carpenters Arms, Thirsk, North Yorkshire have crafted their Glorious 12th Grouse Dinner and quite frankly, grouse dining doesn’t get any fresher than this. Here you can enjoy “exceptionally prepared grouse, shot the very same afternoon on our adjacent shoot moor, and on your plate for dinner.” Field-to-fork dining at its best. At £35 per person, The Carpenters Arms is a must for those in the area.

Galvin Restaurants - La Chapelle 35 Spital Square, London, E1 6DY / Bistrot de Luxe 66 Baker Street, London W1U 7DJ

Galvin Restaurants are celebrating The Glorious Twelfth in their own way. Michelin-starred restaurant La Chapelle will be hosting their own Glorious 19th 5-course menu leaving the grouse to hang for a week before serving it to guests. Their Bistrot de Luxe restaurant will also be serving a 5-course menu where you can taste some of the finest food in the UK.

Northcote - Northcote Road, Langho, Blackburn, Lancashire, England, BB6 8BE

Northcote in Blackburn, Lancashire, is celebrating The Glorious Twelfth with their annual Grouse Evening. Enjoy a gorgeous menu of local ingredients and fresh grouse caught on the day. Plus, on arrival, there will be a champagne reception with canapés, followed by a 4-course meal.

The Jugged Hare - 49 Chiswell St, London EC1Y 4SA

You can enjoy the very first of the new season’s red grouse, shot on the morning of The Glorious Twelfth at 9am here at The Jugged Hare. Sample fresh grouse shot on a beautiful heather moor in Yorkshire, and driven straight to their London kitchen by their very own chefs! Now that’s dedication. A spokesperson from The Jugged Hare said: “We believe we are the first and only restaurant in London to serve red grouse on the twelfth.”

Freemasons at Wiswell - 8 Vicarage Fold, Wiswell, Clitheroe, Lancashire, BB7 9DF

For those in Lancashire area, we recommend Freemasons at Wiswell. The Freemason's Chef Patron Steven Smith is not only preparing and cooking the grouse for guests, but will be joining the hunt on the day, bringing only the very best and freshest to your table. There is also an option for non-game lovers, with an alternative fish dish on the menu.
