Why should I consider holiday lodge insurance?
You can’t beat the freedom of owning a holiday home, whether you’re enjoying adventure-filled weekends away with family or earning an income when it’s not in use.
But as holiday lodges are more exposed to the elements than bricks and mortar homes, there’s a potential risk of accidents. Taking out specialist holiday lodge insurance could protect your finances in the worst-case scenarios so you can get back to enjoying your breaks.
Say your lodge, cabin, or chalet is damaged during a storm, and you’re unable to get away, or you have to cancel bookings because of the damage. Holiday lodge insurance can cover expensive repair or replacement costs and Loss of Rent.
There’s also the risk your holiday lodge could be broken into or vandalised since most owners spend an average of three to four weeks at their holiday home each year. Through Ripe, theft and damage are covered as standard, so you have peace of mind year-round.

Can I insure a holiday lodge that I live in all year round? At Ripe, the holiday lodge insurance is designed for holiday homes only. This does not include residential park homes or holiday homes that are lived in all year round.
If your lodge, cabin, or chalet is your permanent residence, unfortunately, we won’t be able to arrange a policy for you.
However, we do have a separate park home insurance product for those who live on residential sites.
Can my friends and family use my lodge?Yes—holiday lodge insurance arranged by Ripe covers the person who takes out the policy, their domestic partner, members of their family (or families) who are permanently living with them, and their foster children who live with them.
Friends and family outside this group will not be covered if you allow them to use your lodge unless you have included Rental Cover and Loss of Rent.
Am I covered if I hire out my lodge?Yes—you can opt for Rental Cover and Loss of Rent to ensure your holiday lodge insurance policy includes this.
Your holiday home will be covered for loss, damage, or theft while being rented out to someone. It will also be covered for any loss of rent you may suffer whilst your lodge is out of use because of the damage.
The maximum amount which can be paid for loss of rent is £200 per week and £800 overall.
What are the minimum security requirements? You can read our safety and security requirements for holiday lodge insurance here.
Aside from these general conditions and precautions, you could lower your premium by having a professionally installed and maintained security alarm and quality locks.
