Security requirements
Please read the following security requirements which apply to this insurance.
By taking out a Ripe Insurance for Caravans policy, you acknowledge that you meet the security requirements as specified below:
Static Caravans, Lodges, Cabins and Chalets
General conditions
- Whilst your holiday home is unoccupied between the 1st November and 31st March or where the holiday park is closed, you must: Turn the water off at the mains and drain the system or set an automatic central heating system is used to maintain a minimum temperature of 15°C within the holiday home at all times
- If the property is a static caravan or static holiday home it must be securely anchored at all four corners to a firm solid base at all times
- You must take all reasonable steps to prevent or reduce loss or damage to the holiday home and its contents
- You must maintain the holiday home in good state of repair
- Your holiday home must be on a fixed site and connected to main services
- You must ensure that any gas appliances kept in the holiday home are subject to an agreed periodical safety check by a competent tradesperson
- The home must not be able to be moved/relocated without professional assistance
Security Precautions
You must ensure when the holiday home is unoccupied:
- All locks, bolts and other security devices are in operation
- If you have stated you have an alarm, the alarm system on your holiday home must be a minimum level of a bell only alarm. When your holiday home is unoccupied the alarm system must be maintained by an annual maintenance contract and put into operation. Failure to comply with this condition may result in a claim being declined or reduction in any claim payment for theft or attempted theft
General conditions
- Any claims for loss or damage caused by water freezing in any fixed water or heating systems or damage caused by water, liquid or steam escaping from any fixed household appliance or fixed water or heating system will not be accepted between 1st November and 31st March, unless all of the caravan water systems and internal sanitary systems are drained down when not in use. This does not apply to sealed heating systems containing anti-freeze
- The caravan is not used as a permanent place of residence
- The caravan must be maintained in a good state of repair
- The caravan must be used for holidaying and recreational purposes only
- The caravan is stored in the UK when not in use and is kept at the location provided
- The caravan cannot be owned for the purpose of selling it commercially (as part of a business)
Security Precautions
- When your caravan is left unhitched from a towing vehicle, it must be protected with a hitch -lock and wheel clamp, unless at a CaSSOA storage facility whereby they have stated in their contract that they do not allow a hitch-lock or wheel clamp to be fitted
- Claims for theft, attempted theft or malicious damage will not be accepted unless reported to the Police within 24 hours of discovery. If the caravan is left unattended, the doors and windows to the caravan must be closed, locked and any security devices must be in operation
