How many caravans are stolen in the UK?
A huge 1,625 caravans were stolen across the UK over the last three years, according to our analysis.
We asked all UK police constabularies for data on ‘theft of caravan’ offenses between 2020-2022. A total of 30 responded to our freedom of information request.
Additionally, we discovered that caravan theft is on the rise, increasing every year. During the period, caravan theft increased by 9%.

How much does caravan theft cost?
Our recent research shows that the typical cost of a touring caravan is £17,590. Caravan theft therefore costs £9,527,916 on average every year – a significant problem.
When are caravans most likely to be stolen?
Caravans are most likely to be stolen towards the end of the summer season. August and September are the most prevalent months for caravan theft, with an average of 163 and 157 thefts over the three-year period, respectively.
December, meanwhile, was found to be the safest month for caravan theft, with an average of 93 thefts recorded.

Where are the UK’s caravan theft hotspots?
To discover which areas of the UK are the hotspots for caravan theft, we have broken down the data per police constabulary.
We found that the area covered by the London Metropolitan Police was the most prolific for thefts of caravans, with 190 reported incidents between 2020-2022. However, caravan theft in London was found to have decreased by 17% during the period.
Devon and Cornwall and Dorset were the safest areas with just eight reported caravan thefts in total.
